Our Dream

The Dream of Harmony Terrace as a Community began in 2018 when a group of friends met to organize, and develop a new neighborhood based on a vision that embraces a sense of community and connection, far removed from the isolation of traditional housing models. We wanted to build a community we would all love to be a part of!

By following the ideals of “pocket neighborhoods” and “intentional communities”, we focused on designing a community that would be a model for new residential communities that would residents with ample opportunities to engage in community life.

In addition to their private homes, we planned for our residents to have access to Common Facilities, a large swimming pool with a gentle ramp leading into the water, a wood workshop, an art building and a common house with dining/meeting room, kitchen, lounge,  laundry room, a yoga/music room, and two or three guest bedrooms available to members.

* In 2021 we purchased and raised funds from private investors, acquiring a beautiful 4.78 acre site plus a “bonus” 1/2 acre lot nearby, in Hillsborough County on the edges of Temple Terrace and Tampa, Florida.

* In 2022 we hired an architect and began the site planning, house designs, and rezoning process to bring our dream and idealism to reality. We also learned why it’s so difficult to bring a new way of living to the light of day.

* In 2003 had a preliminary site plan ready to go and we rezoned our land from mixed Ag and Residential-2 to a Multi-family Planned Development (see details in other pages) that earned unanimous approval by the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners. We then moved forward, working with professional business advisors, lawyers, accountants, Engineers, and Architects, to assist in our journey to update our house plans, site plan, legal documents, membership processes, etc. etc. etc.

Then came the Summer of 2023.

We experienced a really long, hot summer and realized that Climate Change is real and our world is warming up. It no longer seems prudent to park our cars in grouped garages and to walk to our houses. It’s just too dang hot to walk distances in the summer heat. We began to revise our site plan and home plans to include a garage or carport at each home and to incorporate the civil engineering requirements for the infrastructure development. Upon completion of our civil engineering reports, we discovered we need to allow for more water catchment than we had originally planned.

We have now decided it’s time to find a professional developer to complete our project, or a buyer interested in buying our property to do a project of their design. Through our years of background work, we know that this project is highly desirable form of community design and very marketable location.
